Venice is one of those places that can carry you away, into history or into madness, depending a bit on when you go (I imagine), or your mood at the time.
I was lucky to visit in April. My friend Daniela has a house there and she invited me and a group of photographer friends for a weekend of photography.
The crowds were not yet at the full-flow of high-season but I tripped on a few heels as bottlenecks of tourists trudged over the many narrow bridges carrying the throngs between all the must-see sights.
It was still magical though, and wonderful to escape the wet and grim London weather for a slightly warmer clime, a bit of culture and three days of socialising, spritz and street photography.
